Emily Williams Counseling
A safe environment where you can explore complex issues, develop coping skills, healing, and growth while discovering your individual uniqueness, and true potential.
My Unique Approach
Life can be filled with seasons of struggle often leaving us feeling stuck or cycling through the same problem over and over. If that is the case, counseling may be of help. Through a safe and trusted relationship one can explore the roots of their problems, gain self awareness, and receive new tools in order to live from a place of freedom and authenticity.
Drawing on a wide range of psychological theories and techniques, I assist my clients in cutting through the confusion and beliefs that may be holding them back and pinpointing pragmatic solutions to the complexities of modern life. Together we create a supportive and encouraging environment in order to explore new answers to old issues. Such discovery requires commitment and persistence from both you and me.
Anxiety, Stress, Depression, Trauma, and PTSD
- Mood Disorders
- Personality Disorders
- Thinking Disorders
Stress is a physical response to a situation. When the brain receives a threatening signal, a flood of chemicals overwhelms the rational, more evolved part of the brain, called the prefrontal cortex. Neurotransmitters activate the amygdala, a more primitive part of the brain that evolved to prepare the body’s “fight or flight” response.
Anxiety shares the same physical and biological elements as stress. Two differences are that stress-induced neurotransmitters and hormones stay ramped up and our minds get stuck in repetitive worry, or panic-driven thought loops. Our brain’s survival mechanisms once saved us. Now they can threaten our mental health.
Depression is unlike stress and anxiety, less is known about the causes, symptoms, and mechanisms of depression. Its debilitating nature can cause people to lose the ability to function in all areas of life, including work and relationships. The World Health Organization (WHO) ranks depression as a leading cause of disability worldwide.
Trauma from past events and experiences impacts over 50% of people and can lead to unhealthy thoughts, emotions, and behavior patterns.
